  1. Hi!
With regards to the significant changes in the 0580 syllabus for the examinations in 2025, I have a question.
What about the textbooks catering for the 0580 syllabus? If an eighth grader is studying the Lower Secondary Mathematics Learners Book (8) and plans to sit for the exam in 2025 onwards, would the material she is studying effect the examinations? There are changes added to the syllabus, like the adding and removal of certain topics, for example ‘surds’. Would those only effect when she moves onto the grade 10 textbook and by following the grade 8 textbook its fine?
Thank you so much, I would like a complete clarification on the above.

    1. Hi Hanah,

      Thanks for visiting Skolatis.

Cambridge has made significant changes to the Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics (0580) 2025 syllabus. Because of these changes, it’s recommended that you use textbooks that support the new syllabus. Older textbooks might not be suitable for the new syllabus.

The Lower Secondary Mathematics Learners Book 8 should cover most of the core subject content for the Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics (0580) 2025 syllabus. However, the new syllabus has added new topics, such as surds in the extended subject content.

So, when you start studying for Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics (0580), you should review some topics that have been added or clarified. You may also need to practice using the new formula sheet and the non-calculator paper, which are part of the revised assessment.

We hope you find these helpful. Let us know if you have further questions. We’ll be glad to clarify them. Thank you.

      1. Hi, thank you.
However, to my knowledge the lower secondary mathematics learners book 8 is the only available book for grade 8. Regarding all the grades, would the entire books be updated in the future? Also, if the eighth grader is doing extended, should she follow this book?

I understand that in 10th grade she should take into consideration all the new updates to the papers, and the new formula sheet.
        Thanks again.

        1. Hi again, Hanah,

Unfortunately, we cannot confirm for Cambridge Lower Secondary. We suggest you check the Cambridge website for their recommended textbooks.

          Thank you.

    1. Hi Hanah,

      Thanks for asking.

There is no formula sheet in the IGCSE Mathematics (0580) examinations. You are not expected to memorise complicated formulae. But you may need to recall simple equations like the area of a circle or the volume of a cube.

We suggest you check the Mathematics (0580) syllabus. It will tell you which formulas will be given in the exams and which ones are expected to be memorised.

We hope this helps! We hope to see you in our next free lessons starting January 8.

      1. Okay, I will certainly do that.
        Tysm.
Btw, regarding the free lessons, is it that one specific topic is provided every free lesson, that means a particular topic would be covered during the free lesson?

        1. Hi Hanah,

Yes, that’s right. The topics of the free lessons will be based on the winning topics from the last voting period. You will learn from the revision notes and video tutorial and send questions to our subject matter experts.

          See you there!

  2. Hi!
In the cie june 2024 final timetable zone 4, why are certain subjects highlighted in red, for example the 0580 mathematics extended paper 2, is coloured in red?
    thanks

    1. Hi Hanah,

      Thanks for visiting Skolatis.

Red text in exam timetables means there was a change from the provisional timetable.

We hope that clears things up for you. If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us again.

      1. Hi, thanks!
That means, I should stick to those dates that are in red, as they are the new exam timetables?
