Hello, I had a question regarding Grade Threshold. Does Cambridge calculate the threshold from marks received by students who sat for the paper in a particular country or is it from all the marks received by all students who sat for the same paper.
E.g; If 500 students sat for Physics Paper Variant 2(P12/P22/P42) and 250 of the students are from Country A and 250 are From Country B. Is the grade threshold different for each country or is it the same for both?
Hi Harry,
Thank you for writing in.
The grade threshold is the same for all the candidates who sat for the same paper.
The thresholds are decided after each examination has been taken and marked. The aim of each year (or examination series) is to set each threshold in just the right place to ensure that it is no more difficult and no less difficult to obtain that grade than it was in the previous year.
You can read more about the CAIE’s marking and grading process here: https://skolatis.com/guide-to-the-marking-and-grading-process-of-exam-papers/
We hope this helps.

Good morning IGCSE
Please may I know if the gradings will change for the 2021 exams may june
Hello Jas,
As far as we know, CAIE will use their usual approach to grading exams wherein they use a variety of statistical and judgemental methods. These methods help CAIE maintain the awarding standard from one year to the next.
Furthermore, they are also committed to align their awarding standards to those of equivalent qualifications in England. Many of the candidates will use their grades to apply for courses in competition with people who have grades from equivalent qualifications. Aligning awarding standards ensures that the competition will be fair, without giving an unfair advantage or disadvantage to Cambridge candidates.
Should you have further concerns, it is best that you write to CAIE directly. You may reach them via their website: https://www.cambridgeinternational.org/
Thank you.

Hello Blessing,
I am a Y10 British curriculum student, I was supposed to have my maths Cambridge exams in May-June but they got canceled so now Cambridge wanted us to take an online assessment instead. I’m going to go to AS next year and we will take only 3 subjects, I’m planning to take chem, bio, and physics. So I wanted to know if I fail my maths assessment does it mean I won’t get promoted to AS? I’m planning not to take maths next year. Can you please shed some light on this matter
Hello Rabeeah,
It is important to take note that Maths is considered as a core subject when applying to college/university. Therefore, if you are you going to pursue further studies, you must pass Maths at IGCSE and consider taking Maths at AS Level.
Furthermore, some schools require at least five IGCSE certificates at grades 9 to 4/A* to C to continue at AS/A Level
We strongly suggest that you check with your preferred college/university for their entry requirement.
We hope this helps.

Hello,
Iam in year 9 now as a homeschooler.
I don’t have enough data about IGCSE & don’t understand what is meant by these code’s numbers.
Could you please help?
Hi there,
To learn more about IGCSE, we suggest that you read this article: https://www.skolatis.com/what-is-igcse/
With regards to the exam papers, the first four numbers are the subject code (e.g. 5090 is the subject code of Biology), the next three are the exam series and year (s20 is June 2020), the next two letters is for the type of exam paper (QP is question paper, MS is mark scheme), and the last two numbers are the paper number and variant (22 means Paper 2 variant 2).
The variant number is for the different administrative zone. All the different time zones will have different set of papers. This is to maintain exam security, and to manage the timetabling of exams. You may check which administrative zone you are in here: https://www.skolatis.com/cambridge-igcse-exam-schedules/
You might also want to consider our A* subscription courses here: https://www.skolatis.com/cambridge-igcse-revision-courses/ to help you with your exam preparations.
If you have further questions, do not hesitate to leave us a message.

Hi Ayobami,
The numbers in the end of each paper are for different administrative zones. You may check your administrative zone here: https://www.skolatis.com/cambridge-igcse-exam-schedules/.

Thank you
Hello Asriya,
CAIE is not offering Telugu at the moment. Thank you.
Hi My name is Alex and I am having difficulty in finding the o level books.
I only found books that are for the IGCSE papers. Kindly if you can give a link to the books list of O level.
Hello Alex,
We suggest that you search for suitable O-Level reference books on the Amazon UK site. You will find the same publishers who published the IGCSE books.
Dear IGCSE Centre Team,
Thank you for all your services. I would like to inform you that for the O level Computer Science folder, users are linked to the 2019 October November Commerce Past Papers instead of Computer Science.
Thank you.
Hello there,
Thank you for letting us know. We’ve already made the necessary changes. Kindly check it again. Thank you.
Hi, my name is Amy and I’m homeschooled. I am a bit confused in what exam I’m supposed to do because we always thought IGCSE exams are it but it seems to be the same as O-levels. How do I take my exams and which one do you recommend for me to take?
Hello Amy,
IGCSE and O-level are of equivalent qualification. If your plan is flexible, we would suggest you to take IGCSE instead of O Level. If your future work requires international environment, we feel IGCSE would be better for you. O Level is good as well, just the syllabus is more localised. As a private candidate, your local British Council is the best place to sit for your exams. We suggest that you register yourself whenever you are ready.
You might be interested in joining in our renowned A* online revision course. These courses are being crafted to help you to achieve A*. It consist of: revision notes and video tutorials, a ready-made revision timetable, downloadable exam-style practices, common mistakes candidates make during the exams, examiners’ advice, and also some chosen of our word-renowned A* Model Answers (for the respective subject) would be provided free. To understand how it works, kindly read this page: https://www.skolatis.com/cambridge-igcse-revision-courses/
