Advanced Level (A-Level) is the second part of GCE (General Certificate of Education) (the first part of GCE is O-Level (Ordinary Level)). It is being studied by students of Year 12 & 13 (or sixth form) from the age group 16-18 (in certain countries are age group 17-19).
A-Level is a 2-year course, and it is recognized as the standard assessment of a student’s suitability to enter universities’ courses. According to the British Council, A-levels are similar to the American Advanced Placements which are themselves equivalent to first year courses of America’s four year bachelor degrees.
Structure and Curriculums
At least 5 A*-C grades from GCSE or O-Level, including English and Mathematics are needed as a qualification to start A-Level.
A-Level is being offered by school’s sixth form, private colleges, and universities (normally it’s called Foundation Course in universities). Students may choose to take four to six subjects in A-Level, from the sciences categories (Advanced Maths, Maths, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, etc) or arts categories (Business Studies, Economics, Accounting, Arts, Music, Sociology etc).
Recognition
A-Level is a qualification offered by education institutions in the UK. It is widely taken by students in Commonwealth and former Commonwealth countries.
A-Level course is considered very rigorous, and its certification is highly excepted by universities worldwide. Students normally will apply a placement in preferred universities prior to A-Level exams, with their predicted A-Level results from schools.
As the predicted A-Level results are graded by students’ teachers (which normally considered unreliable), universities still insisted an actual A-Level results before the final decision of placement, though students might be granted a place in the university earlier.

I had completed igcse 5 subjects including accounting and business studies and excludeing maths so Is it possible to complete advanced level accounting and business studies first then I only take maths igcse after completeing advanced level is it ok and justified
Hello Arnob,
The full A Level qualification usually takes two years to complete. If you plan to register for IGCSE after completing the A Level, it will be more than 13 months since you first sat your IGCSE exams.
Some universities will not accept 13 months apart between the first exam and the last exam. We strongly suggest that you check the university’s requirement.
Thank you.
I did not take edexcel maths in igcse but I had taken 5 subjects including accounting and business studies for igcse so can I register for AS exam for business studies and accounting
Hi Arnob,
We believe that you may register for AS Level for Business Studies and Accounting, given that you have met the grade requirements. Please check with your exam centre for confirmation.
Furthermore, IGCSE Maths is usually part of the universities’ entry requirements. If you want to pursue further studies, you should inquire to them directly about the entry requirements.
Thank you.
I got grade g in accounting igcse why can’t I register for edexcel AS level accounting as a private candidate or school candidate
Hello Arnob,
We cannot confirm this for you as we are not the exam board nor an exam centre. We suggest that you write to Edexcel about this matter. You may reach them through their website: https://qualifications.pearson.com/en/home.html.
Thank you for your understanding.

It is best that you confirm this with your exam centre. Thank you.
After how many months can edexcel student take ial exam after IAS
Hi Arnob,
There’s no hard rule when to take the International A Level after taking the International AS Level. We suggest that you register for the International A Level whenever you feel prepared and ready for the exams.
We hope this helps.
Can I register for edexcel igcse and edexcel IAS at the same time
Hello Arnob,
You can register for both Edexcel iGCSE and Edexcel International AS Level. However, you might face date clashes incidents. This happened to many of our candidates before. We would suggest you not register for both iGCSE and AS Level in the same examination series; separating them would be more manageable.
We hope this helps. Thank you.
Can I take edexcel Igcse and AS level as clash exam for example accounting igcse paper 1 and As level accounting paper on same date
Hello Arnob,
Thank you for reaching out to us.
We do not suggest registering for subjects that have clashing exam dates. Your grades will be affected due to missing exam components. Furthermore, to sit for IGCSE and AS Level exams in the same examination series could cause unnecessary stress and divide attention.
Our suggestion is to take IGCSE first and take the AS Level exam on the following exam series.
We hope this helps.
