Dear IGCSE Team,
I couldn’t find any Feb-March 2018 series papers for English As A Second Language (0510).Roughly when I can get the papers?
Hello,
We do not have a fixed date but we will upload it as soon as we get ahold of it. Kindly check our page from time to time. Thank you!
Hello IGCSE Centre,
For Physics (0625) for my Paper 6 there was a question which stated draw a diagram which shows how you would read the water level of a measuring cylinder and the question was for 2 marks. I wrote the requirements such as a perpendicular line of sight and reading of the scale as well as a lower meniscus was required and I also drew the diagram. Although, in my diagram the drawing of my lower meniscus was incorrect I still wrote the water level as the lower meniscus and I drew an identifiable measuring cylinder as well as recognisable perpendicular line of sight and labelled everything meticulously. Will I be able to get the full 2 marks as a Benefit of Doubt or do you think I will only get 1 mark? Please reply as soon as possible. This is pivotal!!!
Hello,
The marking scheme would only be available after the release of the results. At this point, we could only tell you to not sweat it and relax.
Hello IGCSE Centre,
I don’t think you understand. The same exact question has been asked from previous past paper years specifically Physics (0625) 2017 May-June Paper 6 Variant 2 (i.e.62) I did check the variant and the mark scheme said the requirements were a lower meniscus and a perpendicular scale reading or a line of sight. Also in my Paper 6 for 2018 May-June the conditions were not required only a diagram whereas in 2017 May-June Paper 62 the conditions or a diagram was required.Nothing else was mentioned in the mark scheme. My diagram did have the perpendicular scale reading labelled and I did label the lower meniscus although the diagram’s lower meniscus was incorrect I did specifically state and draw in my diagram that the lower meniscus and the perpendicular scale reading was required. Will I be able to get the full 2 marks due to a benefit of doubt or will I only get 1 mark? Please reply as soon as possible. This is crucial!!!!
Hi Harsh,
Based from the previous marking scheme, 2 marks will be given if it satisfies any two of these points: uses bottom of meniscus, perpendicular to reading and/or scale markings. And from what you said, it seems that you?ve answered it correctly (perpendicular line of sight and reading of the scale). However, we are not in the position to confirm if you did earn the full 2 marks, since we do not have the copy of marking scheme yet.
Furthermore, upon checking the 2017 Examiner Report, it states that ?candidates were expected to observe that B should be used because the line of sight is perpendicular to the scale and in line with the bottom of the meniscus. Whilst many candidates knew the word ?meniscus? there is evidence of confusion about the meaning. The meniscus is the curved surface of the liquid. Some candidates seemed to be writing that the top or bottom of the meniscus is called the meniscus and this led to confusing answers. The word ?meniscus? was not required so those candidates who wrote a clear description were able to score the mark.?
You may download the Examiner?s Report here: https://www.skolatis.com/cambridge-igcse-past-exam-papers/
If you require exact answer, please write to CIE directly. CIE is the exam board.
when will ict 2018 feb-march be uploaded?
Hi,
We do not have a fixed date but we will upload it as soon as we get ahold of it. Thank you!
Hello IGCSE Centre,
I would like to ask that for English as a First Language (0500) for Component 4 which is the Coursework Portfolio the suggested word count is 500-800 words and that if a candidate exceeds 800 words it is self penalising. Does this mean that the examiner does not mark after the 800th word? What is self penalising in this case? Please give some clarity and reply as soon as possible. Thanks
Hello,
If there are needed points inside the excess words, it won?t be marked and would be crossed out.
No,
How is that possible they won’t take those excess words into consideration by the moderator if the words have been marked by our examiner and in moderation the marks normally stay the same. The probability of the marks decreasing or increasing is very minute. Also, in Assignment 1 and 3 of the coursework draft I have respected the word count and stayed to 800 words whereas in the Assignment 2 which is Descriptive and Narrative Coursework the nature of my topic could not have stayed to simply 800 words. Furthermore, on the website of CIE it stated that the word count of 500-800 is suggested. Doesn’t that mean it is not mandatory though I understand that significantly over or under the word limit is self-penalising? Also, normally according to my school the examiner normally agrees with the word count even if they have exceeded but, not by an overwhelming amount. My entire class has written over 800 max-900 and my centre allows it. Please reply as soon as possible as this is urgent!!!
But, the word count was suggested as per the CIE website and it stated that it might be self penalising if a candidate significantly exceeds or writes under a word limit however, the coursework is moderated and there is no way that the moderator can cross out the rest of the words for assignment 2 which was my descriptive coursework of 991 words as my story would not make sense and my topic was a detailed one and even if I did stay at 800 words the story would have been bland. That is the nature of my topic and in moderation the marks will stay the same almost all the time and it cannot differ by such a grand scale of marks if he crosses my work out. Also, most of my peers did the same as me however, my assignments 1 and 3 respected it. Please reply as soon as possible as this is urgent
Hello,
Sorry for the confusion ? the crossed out that we mentioned were for Summary. Coursework is internally assessed, you must speak with your teacher regarding this. For your reference, the marks awarded to all candidates within a Centre must be brought to a common standard by the teacher responsible for co-ordinating the internal assessment (i.e. the internal moderator). A single valid and reliable set of marks should be produced, which reflects the relative attainment of all the candidates in the coursework component at the Centre.
Hey IGCSE Centre,
I have noticed that for World Literature (0408) and International Mathematics (0607) there are no Feb March Papers of any year and only May June and October November series are available. Why is that? Also, when will you guys upload the 2018 Feb March papers of French as a Foreign Language (0520)? Please reply ASAP.
Thanks. You’re the best
Hello,
Not all subjects are available during the Feb-March series. For instance, this year there is a total of 19 subjects available for that series.
Unfortunately,we are still missing some from the Feb-March series and that includes French as a Foreign Language (0520).
Hello
How can I get October November timetable 2018 time table pls?
Hi Marya,
You can refer to the timetable here: https://www.skolatis.com/cambridge-igcse-exam-schedules/
can I split up the exams which i want to appear
that are can I give 4 exams in October November
and rest 4 in may next year
Hi Andre,
If you are a private candidate, it is always good to split the subjects in different examination series, so you can have full concentration in less subjects in one go. However, if you are attached to a school, you may split your subjects if your school allows you to do so.
hello igcse center
I would like to ask u that is there any way to get rid of tension during exams kindly reply as I have my October November exam series coming up
Hi Harshita,
Please read this article, https://www.skolatis.com/how-to-handle-your-stress-when-exam-is-approaching/, they are extremely helpful to reduce your stress ?
You must put your mind on studying, not ?stressing?. When you concentrate in one thing, your mind can?t think of another thing.
hi there igcse centre
I would like to ask you guys that when will u be uploading the Feb march series and may June series papers
kindly do the needful as early as possible
Hello,
Most of the Feb-March series papers are now uploaded. Kindly check it again. Thank you!
