Hi, first I’d like to thank your team for giving me, and most other students, this kind of opportunity to get free access to so many past papers all at once. You guys have truly helped countless people and it is unfortunate that this happened. I have a question. It seems that most people across India who have given the AS and A levels in this year’s Feb/March series have gotten very low grades. I do not know what happened. Keep in mind, I am not questioning the CAIE or the examiner’s capabilities. I am simply curious as to what could have happened. Do you think I should send my papers for rechecking?

Thank you for your kind words.
If you believe that your exam results should be higher (based on your performance with your school), you should talk to your teacher. If your teacher agrees that you should request a re-mark, you will need to contact your school’s IGCSE coordinator. You may need a letter from your teacher to support your request, and in most cases you will have to pay a re-marking fee.

According to what you said that you have performed good in the exam but a lot of your marks have come out low. This has occurred plenty of times, mostly when the exam paper is relatively easier so examiners check them strictly. This process is called de-scaling. In contrast, when exam is tougher than previous years, more marks are awarded which is know as scaling.
It’s the same with IGCSE, the papers were extremely easy and therefore the grade thresholds were much higher than usual
Only the select few who knew the correct and accurate answers to those answers would get the top grades
You can also make a grade curve in your head
95% and above would be very less on the top right of the graph and the line would slope down extremely low after that
I did really well in my math exam and I thought that I only got 2 questions wrong across both papers but I ended up getting 91%. Whereas a friend who only got 1 question wrong got exact 99%
In my computer Alevels P4 examinatiom my gel smudged over an answer. I could read the code beneath the smudge, but will the scanner be able to scan the code properly. And is there any provision to penalised smudges in exam paper?
Hello Sam,
One of the reasons why they discourage students to use gel pen is it is often illegible when scanned. If you believe that your answers are clear enough then the examiners would be able to mark it.
Can the scanner differentiate between the smudge and the written code? Like does it equally blacken all the writings or the blackening depens upon on the shade of black on the paper.
In my paper the smudge created a layer of light grey colour above the written code, I could see the code beneath the grey smudge with my eyes so I did not give it much of a thought, but now I am really worried about this.

Unfortunately, we are still in midst of creating AS/A-Level revision course and we do not offer A Level Model Answers at the moment. But we will submit your suggestion for review.
We suggest that he prepare for his exams as early as possible. He can revise the subjects from the beginning. Highlight the important facts that he thinks could be on the test (kindly refer to the latest syllabus on what is expected during exams here: https://www.skolatis.com/cambridge-international-as-a-level-syllabuses/). He can then use the past exam papers as your revision. Start with the latest papers as they have the newest syllabus format and continue with the older ones date back from 5 to 10 years. Then, revise on the most common mistakes that he always seems to make. Make notes and revise them, so he can avoid making the same mistakes in his actual exam.
