Cambridge AS Level General Paper (8004) had its last examinations last November 2018. It is now replaced by English General Paper (AS Level only) (8021).
Heyo! My Physics Practical exam is coming up on the 6th of this October and I just wanted to know if you had any last-minute tips for me. Here are some Paper 6 tips:
– Read the questions through very carefully to ensure that you are answering the question as written, and not simply recalling the answer to a different question which may be similar.
– Follow instructions correctly, record measurements clearly and perform calculations accurately and correctly.
– Be ready to apply your practical knowledge to unusual situations. Your ideas must be expressed logically and derive conclusions from given experimental data and you must be able to justify them.
– When writing the outline for an investigation, answer these questions with careful reading of the brief and the logical application of experimental practice.

Is there any rule at the AS level for 8695 Language and Literature (Drama, Poetry and Prose) where we have to answer ONE passage question and ONE essay question?

Upon checking both the subject syllabus and specimen paper, in Paper 1 Writing, Section A is now compulsory and it requires candidates to write a shorter piece of writing and then reflect on this, while for Section B, it remains as three optional questions. Candidates will choose one question from three categories: imaginative/descriptive, discursive/argumentative or review/critical.
In Paper 2 Drama, Poetry and Prose, you are required to answer two questions in the examination, each from a different section of the question paper.

Hello Mia,
It will depend if you’re taking the staged assessment route where you take the Cambridge International AS Level in one examination series and complete the final Cambridge International A Level at a subsequent series or if you plan to take all papers of the Cambridge International A Level (AS Level papers and A Level papers) course in the same examination session at the end of your course.

We suggest that you start your revision as early as possible. Highlight the important facts that you think could be on the test (you should refer to the latest syllabus on what is expected during exams here: https://www.skolatis.com/cambridge-igcse-subjects-syllabuses/). You can then use the past exam papers (https://www.skolatis.com/cambridge-igcse-past-exam-papers/) as your revision. Start with the latest papers as they have the newest syllabus format and continue with the older ones date back from 5 to 10 years. Then, revise on the most common mistakes that you always seem to make. Pay attention to the most common mistakes you always seem to make. Make notes and revise them, so you can avoid making the same mistakes in your actual exam.

Dear IGCSE Centre,
I needed some advice. In AS Level Language and Literature in English (8695) for examination in 2021, we are given a choice of two questions out of three sections in Literature. Would it be advisable to do Poetry and Drama or Prose and Drama? I am asking as I have not kept up to date with prose (Small Island) as much as I have with Drama (All My Sons) or Poetry (Songs of Ourselves Volume 2)

You are free to choose the sections that you are most comfortable with. As you start revising, focus on how authors’ choices of language and literary methods shape meaning. You should develop a line of argument in response to the question, developing points to a conclusion.

Hi IGCSE centre, I appeared for 2020 May-June series which had the grading system. I worked really hard and got A’s in my mock. My school gave me a predicted grade of A and my results came out as 3 B’s and one A. I really feel dejected and wonder how is it going to affect my future. Did not expect CAIE to give me such an unfair judgement. 🙁

We are very sorry to hear what happened.
Please do not lose hope. You may still be able to progress to the next stage of your education
or future employment as planned with your grade(s). Contact your school, prospective university/higher education institution or prospective employer to discuss your options.
You can also ask your school to request to review the grades for the
candidates in your entry group in the syllabus to check specific parts of the ‘statistical standardisation’ calculations. CAIE call these reviews ‘post-results checks’
We hope that CAIE will address this issue as we have received similar complaints from other students and parents as well.
Alternatively, you may consider resitting the respective subjects in the coming November 2020 examination series.
